Madam, - The portrait of Mary Harney in your Business section of July 17th was a stunner. Above her head we read: "ISEQ: down, FTSE: down, Dow: down. To her right, "Waterford to lay off 200 and to freeze pay for staff": Beneath, "Volex to close with 170 job losses". And if all this was not bad enough, to her left, of all places, some fiscal theorist was demanding that the Government cut 10,000 jobs.
I recall reading an art expert's description of a Van Gogh painting as a "portrait in turmoil". Fits nicely here too. - Yours, etc.,
JIM O'SULLIVAN, Rathedmond, Sligo.
