Madam, - The media recently reported that British government officials visiting during the Irish Presidency of the EU have been instructed not to refer to the country as Éire. It might cause offence.
Article 4 of the Constituion is explicit: "The name of the State is Éire, or, in the English language, Ireland".
What possible affront could be caused by using this country's official name? - Yours, etc.,
