Madam, – Victoria White (Opinion, March 17th) states that when her husband became a Minister in the last government she was “Thrilled for the planet and particularly this part of it”. At least one person is thrilled with the government her husband was part of.
While Ms White goes on to blame the people for propping up a Fianna Fáil government, she chooses to ignore that by 2010 had the Green Party voted against the government it would have fallen.
She fails to mention that by then her husband along with his Green colleagues had become so addicted to the “power” that she scoffs at that they would no longer listen to the voice of the people. A voice that wanted change and an election.
Instead, having seen the power that office brings, the Green Party went on to fight for such vital things to the country’s immediate welfare as climate change, corporate donations and carbon tax.
Anyone who attempts to spin the wreckage of the government in which Eamon Ryan and John Gormley were senior ministers as anything but disastrous for this planet and this part of it is utterly delusional. The electorate is not, and has spoken; eradicating the Green Party in the process. – Yours, etc,
