Sir, – It is now clear that the Boris Johnson-led administration never had any intention of implementing the NI Protocol (as agreed). I draw a clear distinction here between the UK as the nation state and the administration led by Mr Johnson. For example, I believe had former prime minister Theresa May agreed such a protocol, she would have been fully prepared to honour it in full.
Mr Johnson certainly and before year’s end will invoke Article 16, preventing protocol implementation possibly for years as both sides become mired in legal argument. I do hope the EU is fully prepared for this inevitability. – Yours, etc,
