Madam, - What a pity G.F. has to spoil an otherwise interesting meditation on "The Handmaid of the Lord"(Thinking Anew, August 7th) by his snide final remark: "Mary was neither sinless nor ever-virgin but she was most certainly a hero".
Every day, at every Mass throughout the Roman Catholic Church, Mary, the ever-virgin mother of Jesus Christ, is remembered and honoured.
Why? One reason might be that this belief of the Church was confirmed by the Lateran Council of 649 AD.
In short, last Saturday G.F. was just downright offensive. - Yours, etc.,
