Madam, - According to my dictionaries, people who live together are either "cohabitants" or "cohabiters". What justification is there for calling them "cohabitees", as your contributor Dr John Mee does (Opinion, November 16th)?

Though there are many exceptions (including such silly ones as "attendees" and "standees"), the ending "-ee" normally denotes a person who is acted upon. By contrast cohabitation is a state actively chosen and maintained by both partners. - Yours, etc.,
