Sir, - Were we to judge those leading the current media onslaught on teachers (Pat, Joe and Marian) by the criteria they are using to judge teachers, the comparisons would be most interesting indeed.
As radio presenters for five to 10 hours per week they receive substantial remuneration (how much per hour I'd like to know), while having regular access to paid stand-in cover to accommodate holidays required outside their school holiday breaks! It's enough to make any worker weep with envy.
As a teacher I research, direct and produce seven "shows" a day, five days a week. As well as this I present 22 hours "air time" for my listeners. Now, that's what I call productivity!
