Sir, – The Irish Times has always led opinion in this country when it comes to sensible decision-making in the realms of social and economic policy in the face of government inaction. Our health is our wealth, so I wonder why there has been no debate in your pages regarding the removal of fluoride from water supplies in countless municipalities in the US and New Zealand, and the recent decision by the Israeli supreme court to ban the practice?
Many of these actions cited the work of west Cork environmental scientist, Declan Waugh, who has battled to bring the question of the health effects of fluoridation into the public realm.
Is this a case of a “prophet is not known in his own country?” – Is mise,
