Sir, – I am somewhat amused by the negative reaction from Irish politicians on all sides to the US decision that Irish students must have a job already lined up in the US before being awarded a student working visa there ("J-1 students must now find jobs before travelling to US", November 12th).
This decision by the US government makes total sense. Equally, as far as I am aware, the state of Ireland does not welcome any non-EU students into the jobs market here, either with or without prior job confirmation.
Irish politicians should show a little more consistency in this regard. – Yours, etc,
