Stamp of approval for Che Guevara?

Sir, – Gearoid Kilgallen (October 11th) writes, "We should all be proud of Che's Irish ancestry". I suppose we should be grateful for the fact that neither Ceausescu, Stalin nor Mao had a Galwegian granny? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I sought out the Che quote provided by Gerard Casey in his letter (October 12th) and I have not been able to find the original source for the quote. I have seen it reposted on many right-wing sites not known for their rigorous research.

One of Che's most famous quotes is, "At the risk of seeming ridiculous, let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love. It is impossible to think of a genuine revolutionary lacking this quality . . . We must strive every day so that this love of living humanity will be transformed into actual deeds, into acts that serve as examples, as a moving force." The source for this is a letter Che wrote to a Uruguayan journalist that was republished in Socialism and Man in Cuba. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – The irony perhaps is that what many of us know about the man would fit on the back of a postage stamp. – Yours, etc,
