Sir, - Recently I was alarmed to hear about soya beans which had been genetically modified to resist pesticides. The letter from Gerry Boland (Green Party) on February 13th was then doubly alarming - that trials on genetically modified sugar beet are to be carried out on our own doorstep.
I would very much agree that an oral hearing is essential before these trials ever begin. Also, why should companies be so reluctant to label this new "food" if we have nothing to worry about? - Yours, etc.,
