Smiling through the pain

Madam, – I was somewhat confused after reading your Pricewatch section (February 28th). Caroline Madden, in her excellent piece on dental health, advises that “your choice of dentist shouldn’t be based on price alone”. Patsy McGarry, in the article just below this, seems to be of a different opinion.

The price comparison he suggests between Dublin and Budapest is inaccurate as he does not compare similar treatments in both surgeries.

Equally, research published last May suggests that up to 6,000 people a year who travel abroad from Ireland for dental treatment have to receive corrective treatment on their return. Therefore, our advice to anyone considering dental treatment abroad is to check with a local dentist in the first instance to see what work is required and to get a valid price comparison.

Mr McGarry concludes that his teeth are now sorted for the rest of his days. How does he know this? – Yours, etc,
