Madam, - On RTE radio the other day, the former Sinn Féin activist Danny Morrison listed the "giving up of Articles 2 and 3 of our Constitution" as one of the concessions which Sinn Féin had made as part of the Belfast Agreement.
It was, of course, no such thing, despite appears to be Sinn Féin members' tactic of continually repeating the claim to the point where they hope it becomes conventionally accepted as true.
Articles 2 and 3 were amended by the Irish people in a referendum based on an Act of the Oireachtas which had all-party support. While welcoming the Sinn Féin conversion, we should also remember that it is not so long ago that what is now claimed by Sinn Fein to be "our" Constitution was frequently dismissed by them as being that of the "26-county rump state". - Yours, etc.,
NIALL GREENE, Raheen, Co Limerick.
