Sir, – There seems to be a groundswell of opinion that families should no longer expect to live in a house with a garden for children to play in. We should now be living in high-rise apartments, because we don’t have the space. This is deemed as an acceptable way for families to live: with sedentary children cooped up in confined spaces without anywhere to exercise or play with other children.
I think any TD, civil servant or celebrity architect who continues to propose this should be forced to sell their homes and move into one of these apartments.
It would be wonderful to see real leadership from them and show us the benefits of this modern way of living.
However, if this was the case, I expect they would become silent on the issue very quickly. The hard-working people of Ireland deserve better. – Yours, etc,
MARCUS KENNEDY,
Rathmines, Dublin 6.
