Madam,– I am shocked and horrified to see the death of another cyclist on Dublin roads. Without meaning to imply any blame in this case. I am appalled, as a regular cyclist, at the level of dangerous driving I see every day. Incidents of drivers overtaking within centimetres of a cyclist or failing to look in their side-mirror when taking a left turn are so regular as to be expected. Two days ago I had three such incidents happen to me during a 50– minute cycle, any one of which could have been fatal had I not taken evasive action. There is clearly a need for completely separate bicycle lanes and a safety awareness campaign to educate drivers. When cyclists are doing what we are all being asked to do, by reducing our car usage, can we really expect others to cycle with the threat of a fatal accident, a daily reality? – Yours, etc,
