Sir, – Brian Hayes (March 6th) writes that “A total of 188 people lost their lives on Irish roads last year as a direct result of drink driving”. Alas, there were indeed a total 188 fatalities on our roads in 2016, but not all were as a direct result of drink driving. – Yours, etc,
