A chara, - I have read of late of "a growing disquiet over the military action in Afghanistan" among the American populace.
In my 50 years of life in America I have never seen such resolute agreement by a people who traditionally argue among themselves as a matter of routine. The people of the US are in fact turning the world away from the abyss of terror and are saving democracy, as they did in 1945. And the people of the United Kingdom seem to be of a like mind.
In both eras, the people of Ireland sat around the fire and told stories about Cuchulainn and the Brown Bull and spoke of the humanity of it all.
If you hear disquiet, it is because the Americans know something that Ireland will realise months from now: Iraq and the Aal Qaeda are as Sinn FΘin and the PIRA.
The people of the United States and those of the United Kingdom will again rescue world democracy and Ireland will stand by and watch as a benefactor of its emigrant diaspora. - Yours, etc.,
