Sir, – I was trying to buy and have shipped a Paul Henry print, A Connemara Village, from the National Gallery of Ireland’s online shop to my brother in the US. It is a wonderful scene and a fine example of Henry’s distinctive style in the 1920s (think dramatic vaulting clouds).
I was surprised to learn, however, that the National Gallery will ship prints and other merchandise to such exotic and far-flung places as Afghanistan, Bermuda, Christmas Island, Martinique, Papua new Guinea, Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, South Sudan, Ethiopia and the Palestinian territories, but not to the US or UK. While it is admirable to have such a global reach, it is a shame the NGI can’t facilitate the enjoyment of such beautiful Connemara landscapes by far-flung emigrants in the countries in which they are more likely to live (with all respect to your readers on Christmas Island). – Yours, etc,
ANDREW ENNIS,
Dublin 8.
