Sir, - Why must the commercials on RTÉ Radio 1 be so inane? Pitiful attempts at humour, woeful puns and gormless slogans assault the ear and insult the intelligence day and night.
I find the ads drive me to leave RTÉ and switch to BBC Radio 4, which offers thoughtful programmes free from the blight of advertising. Surely Ireland deserves - and can afford - at least one commercial-free and independent current affairs radio station. - Yours, etc.,
