Sir, – A man says he is interested in becoming our president. Then he declares he is pulling out. This was the top story on RTÉ radio news bulletins. I kid you not.
Your website also reports the story and tells us that the same man, who is an artist and musician, has a forthcoming exhibition and is planning to release a single. I suppose I needed to know that too.
Meanwhile in the real world lots of important stuff happens without press releases.
Journalists, get on your bikes. – Yours, etc,
DENIS HEALY,
Galway.
Sir, – Paint your Dragon? – Yours, etc,
PAUL DELANEY,
Dalkey,
Co Dublin.
Sir, – I suppose there is little chance that Michael D Higgins will honour his promise to serve only one term as president, and bow out gracefully, thus ensuring that someone with a fresh approach and new ideas would be elected.
Fourteen years is just too long for any one person to stay in office, no matter how well he might have filled the position. – Yours, etc,
MARGARET BUTLER,
Booterstown,
Co Dublin.
