Madam, - The organisers of Earth Hour state that the intention of their movement is to highlight the issue of climate change and the effect conventional generation of electricity supplies has on the atmosphere.
However, the event also provided a clear indication of the amount of waste going on every day and night in our cities and towns with internal and external lighting and power consumption.
If we can survive for an hour without the excessive lighting, why did it have to be turned back on? - Yours, etc,
JAMES McCARTHY, Shanakiel, Cork.
