Madam, – I am delighted to see our towns and villages decorated with such an extravagant abundance of political posters. Think of all the money the candidates are spending on these posters. If they did not spend these funds on posters then they would doubtless use it to swamp our letterboxes with junk mail. Long live the political poster! – Yours, etc,
Madam, – Museum collections of political posters may be all very well (May 13th and 20th), but surely it is many of our politicians who rightly belong in a museum? Younger voters might be more likely to bother to vote if candidates were seen to better represent the priorities of youth.
If voting was to be rewarded by means of a tax rebate, for example worth €50, and those not paying tax induced by a similar increase in their benefit, voter turnout would surely vastly increase and our politicians would be entitled to feel that their election would genuinely reflect the wishes of the people rather than being as a result of general and widespread voter apathy. – Yours, etc,
