Sir, The Government ran scared of the 20,000 objectors in the Castleknock area when it came to granting a licence for a casino within the £400 million Phoenix Park Complex. Having commissioned a check in the area ourselves (not scientific admittedly), we discovered that the question asked of individuals outside churches and at the local park market, to obtain their signatures, was: "Do you want drugs and prostitution on your doorsteps?"
I think most fair minded people would agree that this was hardly likely to elicit a balanced response from the people of Blanchardstown Castleknock Blakestown, or anywhere else for that matter. Our own poll in the areas gave a more than 80 per cent "Yes" to the question: "Would you be in favour of the Phoenix Park Stadium Project, including a five-star Sheraton Hotel with casino and national conference centre?"
As Frank Carson would say: "It's the way you tell em". - Yours, etc.
Demesne,
Dublin 5.
