Madam, – Should President Obama and US senators get a pay increase to bring them in line with Irish TDs and ministers in the Dáil? I don’t think so; the American people would not stand for that; they are in a recession after all.
I listened to Eamon Dunphy express his frustration on the RTÉ Marian Finucane Show recently when he tried to get a debate going over the excessive salaries and perks still enjoyed by Government ministers, senators, hospital consultants etc, but Marian quickly moved on to another topic and the issue was swept under the RTÉ carpet.
It would appear that it’s all right to talk on RTÉ about reducing the number of junior ministers but not their inflated salaries and perks.
Could it be that RTÉ broadcasters are afraid to air this sensitive issue as it could be directed at them also? – Yours, etc,
