Sir, - Last month the Office of Public Works received a diploma from the European organisation Europe Nostra for its project "Leinster House 2000". The citation states: "for excellence in both design and the skilful blending of conservation and new construction in a highly sensitive historic environment".
On that occasion I was privileged to see this high-quality modern office wing with its landscaped courtyard, discreetly tucked away on the north side of Leinster House.
Since then I have become aware of how few members of the public have visited this remarkable building or even know of its existence. I urge the OPW to organise some tours for the public. This could be done during the summer when the Oireachtas is in recess. - Yours, etc.,
