Sir, - Deaglán de Bréadún's Irishman's Diary of June 3rd on Daniel O'Connell's house in Merrion Square brings back memories. I lived and worked there for some years in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
It was from the first-floor balcony I watched the British Embassy burn after Bloody Sunday.
Apart from The Liberator and myself the house had another famous resident: Jack Doyle lived there with his wife Movita. The Gorgeous Gael and his firebrand Mexican had many a scrap - all of which she won. The marks were still on the walls when I was there.

I hope the new owners, Notre Dame University, will have the sense to have them preserved as a matter of hysterical interest. - Yours, etc.,
