Sir, - The appearances of Norma McCorvey (the Jane Roe of the Roe v Wade decision on abortion in the US) on Kenny Live and in person, have been instructive.
She wasn't raped, she didn't have an abortion, and she didn't appear in court. Her child was two years old when the US Supreme Court decided she could abort.
Once Norma McCorvey had signed the affidavit, it seems that both her supporters and herself substantially went their different ways. For her supporters, there would be victory. For Norma, when she came to appreciate the enormity of what she had participated in, there would be a burden of guilt.
Have we, in this country, anything to learn from all this?
For who will take responsibility for answering the questions of Ms X, or more particularly Ms C, when they come to ask, in 10 or 20 years' time, if, what was done on their behalf was done totally with their best interests in mind, or was there any element of another agenda?
Or will they be left, like Norma, to sort it out for themselves? - Yours, etc., Cllr Richard Greene,
The Palms,
Roebuck Road,
Dublin 14.
