Madam, - Music, film, theatre, music, broadcasting, poetry, policy, music, visual arts, education, more music. . . No dance!
In announcing the membership of the new agency to promote Irish arts overseas, Culture Ireland, on February 24th, it seems that John O' Donoghue, Minister for Arts, Sports, Tourism, has not fully got to grips with the legitimacy of contemporary dance as part of our culture - even though dance has (finally) been afforded the status of a named contemporary art form in the recent Arts Act (2003). - Yours, etc.,
MARY BRADY, Artistic Director, Institute for Choreography and Dance, Firkin Crane,
Cork.
