Madam, - On a recent Aer Lingus flight from JFK New York to Dublin, I ran into the Irish Consul General in New York, Eugene Hutchinson, and his wife Adele. As we moved along the chute into the plane I saw them both ahead of me. As they entered I fully expected them to turn left into business class. But no, they turned right and were down with myself and the other gobbers in economy.
During the flight I went up to them and expressed my surprise that they weren't in business class. The Consul General's reply both astounded and edified me: "I'm spending the tax-payers' money, and they're not taxed to put me into first class."
Would that such integrity be found across the board in our rather selfish and greedy world. - Yours, etc.,
