A chara, – Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has predictably confirmed that his party will not support any Sinn Féin no-confidence motion in Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government Eoghan Murphy, so by logical reasoning Fianna Fáil has confidence in Mr Murphy, but how is this possible or even credible?
Why is Fianna Fáil, the supposed main Opposition party, not willing to hold this Government or individual Ministers to account? How is it acceptable to Fianna Fáil that there are 9,891 individuals homeless, including 3,867 children? It truly beggars belief that Fianna Fáil, apart from telling us that it has changed, is not willing to actually change, especially considering the absolute carnage it caused the last time it was in government. Fianna Fáil needs to do something right for our country by supporting the homeless, and not Mr Murphy who, for starters, won’t even declare this current crisis as a national emergency, when it most certainly is. – Is mise,

Sir, – It is hypocritical of the leader of Sinn Féin to lambaste Eoghan Murphy for his performance in tackling the homeless issue and to suggest he should resign. She is right that it continues to be a scandal, but she offers no solution of any sort to resolving it. Calling the kettle black may well serve to garner a few extra votes but it does nothing to put disenfranchised families in permanent homes. – Yours, etc,
