Sir, - There is an appalling implication in Des O'Malley's outburst in your edition of March 26th: that only supporters of Milosevic are opposed to the bombing of Serbia. While his nausea at listening to Caoimhin O Caolain is dangerous only to his immediate colleagues, the sentiments he expressed are outrageous.

Just as the bombing of Iraq, which Mr O'Malley supported, did no political damage to Saddam, so the present adventure has strengthened the position of Milosevic. It has, as Martin Turner's cartoon illustrates, led to the silencing of the Serbian opposition and the intensification of Serbian chauvinism. Since these results were predictable, I suspect that the NATO alies have quite a different agenda, including the whipping up of chauvinism in Western Europe and the US. - Yours, etc., Sean Edwards,
