Sir, – With reference to John Murphy’s search for a Minister in Charge of Reducing the Cost of Living (February 22nd), the admirable Richard Dreyfuss, actor and activist, rather brilliantly suggested in an interview some years ago that major government decisions should first be passed by a Department of Common Sense. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Perhaps John Murphy’s suggested title (February 22nd) might more appropriately be the Minister for Reducing the Cost of Existence and Subsistence?

“Living”, for many, would be an entirely different phenomenon. – Yours, etc,
