Sir, - I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for the power-cut candle so kindly issued by the National Millennium Committee. Many's the happy hour my husband and myself have whiled away huddled over this candle for light and warmth, devising all manner of cuisine flambee dishes (semi-poached eggs, luke-warm soup), to keep us going through this spate of interruptions to our electricity supply.
Of course, living on the rugged coastline of north-west Donegal, where fuel can be easily found (driftwood, fallen trees, stray pieces of turf), we recognise that we are not as deprived as our urban neighbours. Nevertheless, in view of the severity of recent cuts (up to six hours), we wondered if there would be any chance of more candles to see us through the winter? Thanks a Millennium. - Yours, etc.,
Ces and Dave Flitton, Dungloe, Co Donegal.
