Sir, – In our sorry times, could it be that Mick Wallace did the wrong thing for the right reasons? – Yours, etc,
Sir, – Joe Higgins TD has suggested that a portion of Mick Wallace’s salary as a TD should be deducted on a monthly basis in order to pay off some of his €2.1 million debt to the Revenue Commissioners (Home News, June 9th). Richard Boyd Barrett TD has endorsed this suggestion in recent days.
So in other words, the self-proclaimed patron saints of ordinary working people are suggesting that Mr Wallace’s enormous debts to the taxpayer should be paid off from funds provided by taxpayers! Even Fianna Fáil must be blushing at the ideological somersaults which our so-called socialists are willing to perform in order to defend one of their own pals. – Yours, etc,
Sir, – I can think of several TDs, including but not restricted to, those in the technical group, that I would far rather were excluded from public office than Mick Wallace.
To the best of my knowledge he has never been associated with an illegal army. Nor has he been deemed by a tribunal to have acted improperly. Various politicians who at best “slept” through this country’s financial crash still unworthily grace the Dáil.
In view of the failure of senior bond holders to be held to account for losses which we citizens must now bear, perhaps an appropriate punishment for Mr Wallace would be that he be asked to undergo a haircut on behalf of us all and that he be then allowed to resume his Dáil activities.
I would also have preferred that Mr Wallace, as a genuine football supporter, had been able to support his country’s efforts in Poznan, rather than another high-profile gentleman who featured most prominently in the lamented Anglo Irish Bank. – Yours, etc,
