Sir, – The images of grieving relatives and distressed rescue workers around the collapsed apartment complex in Miami in the US have appropriately elicited both widespread public sympathy and a determination to do what is necessary prevent such tragedies in the future.

It is therefore sobering to consider that precisely this sort of damage continues to occur in towns and cities across the Middle East as a result of deliberate political and military strategy.
