Madam, - Surely there can be nobody who is not horrified at the terrible fate of Margaret Hassan, abducted, held, tortured and probably murdered while engaged in humanitarian work for those so much in need of help in Iraq. Those who perpetrated such dreadful, macabre deeds must be the most barbaric and depraved of people and must be unreservedly condemned for their actions.
We imagine, self-righteously, that such appalling, inhuman acts certainly would never be carried out in Ireland. Has anyone ever heard of Jean McConville? And how many others? - Yours, etc.,
C.M. BUTLER, Cherrywood Grove, Newry, Co Down.
