Lucky streak?

Sir, – I was surprised to read that Seán Moran saw nothing wrong with the view that Dublin "are a lucky team" ("September Road: Mayo need a bit of Dublin-esque luck", Sport, September 7th).

The simple fact is that for this past number of years they have been the best team, nothing more, nothing less; calling winners “lucky” is merely the cry of those trying to explain away the success of others they don’t like. And I sincerely hope that the idea that all Mayo need to win on Sunday is a “bit of luck” does not gain any traction among the players.

Good luck is when opportunity meets preparation; bad luck is when lack of preparation meets reality.

And here is one thing that Mayo had better have learned from the other semi-final: Tyrone are ready. – Yours, etc,
