Sir, - As a Frenchman living in Ireland for the last 12 years, I want to express my sadness at the French election result.

Politically on the Left, I made the journey from Cork to Dublin to vote at the French Embassy. For too many years the Left ignored the working class - the roots of socialism. Maybe this is a good warning for the Labour Party in Ireland for the General Election.

Finally, I do not agree with Kevin Myers (April 26th). Le Pen - not even Monsieur - is simply a Fascist. April 21st was a sad day for democracy and for France. - Yours, etc.,
