Sir, – David McWilliams ("Why young Irish are still leaving for London in their droves", News Review, April 2nd) writes: "In 2021, at the height of Covid, 54,000 young Irish people emigrated".
While it’s true that 54,000 people left Ireland (not all of them for London) to live abroad in 2021, just some 42 per cent of them were Irish nationals. Data compiled by the Central Statistics Office puts the number of Irish people who emigrated during that period at 22,800. – Yours, etc,
