Sir, – I would invite those who think investing in the arts is a waste of money to read the report published by Fáilte Ireland and the Irish Music Rights Organisation ("Irish arts and entertainment alive and kicking, says report", February 13th).
The new study into the Irish entertainment industry estimates that every €1 spent on a ticket generates an additional €6.06 for the wider economy.
This alone is a fantastic payoff.
However, if you take into account the added cultural, employment and health benefits, it really makes the arts a safe bet for society. – Yours, etc,
