Sir, – The forthcoming amalgamation of County Dublin and Dún Laoghaire VECs will leave the Dún Laoghaire and surrounding districts without administrative services, as they are being transferred to Tallaght. This will cause untold hardship for people hoping to avail of VEC services/courses offered by DLVEC.
People seeking VTOS, Back to Education, grants, etc, will now have to make their way to Tallaght. As many people enrolling on these courses are coming off the live register and are financially unable to pay for transport, it’s vital that a sub-office is left in situ for them.
Dún Laoghaire and its surrounding areas, with a population of more than 190,000, has already suffered enough, with curtailed A&E services in St Michael’s Hospital and the proposed closure of Loughlinstown A&E. Enough is enough. It’s up to our politicians, including An Tánaiste, Eamon Gilmore, to insist that the area doesn’t lose another service such as the VEC administration office. – Yours, etc,
PADDY DOYLE,
Sallynoggin Park,
Dún Laoghaire,
Co Dublin.
