Madam, – Your esteemed newspaper reports that the Labour Party is now the biggest party in the State, for the first time ever (Irish Times/Ipsos MRBI poll,Front page, June 11th).
Great news for the Labour Party, but not very comforting for the rest of us. The Labour Party is too small to form a government on its own and doesn’t have parliamentary representation in all or a significant majority of constituencies, so what is the point of this great news?
It simply means that in order to have a Labour-led government, if that were the will of the electorate, they would be contaminated by a “hangers-on” party in coalition that the people of the country don’t want involved. A kind of back-door system. This is exactly the kind of government composition that has been the ruination of this country and has spawned the kind of “cosy cartel” that has left us with a Government that cannot be ousted from office.
Out of the frying pan and into the fire. Politicians firmly moulded into keeping themselves in the kind of jobs that are overpaid, overvalued, and useless in times of crisis.
And they want the rest of us to tighten our belts so that their high life-quality remains unaffected.
Time for the people to become wise to politicians and send them the message that the gravy train is running dry for them too, and the game is up! – Yours, etc,
Madam, – Is this Enda Fine Gael? – Yours, etc,
