Madam, - The Taoiseach has said human rights abuses are a constant point of discussion with the Chinese authorities (The Irish Times, December 1st). Surely they should also be a constant point of discussion with the American authorities.
US massacres in Iraq and Afghanistan, detention without trial, torture and now the sinister use of undisclosed detention centres where the Red Cross are denied access, make the US a leading violator of human rights. The horrific reports that US tanks rolled over the citizens of Fallujah is a low the Chinese didn't manage in Tiananmen Square. Unless the leaders of the civilised world stand up to the US, murder and torture will continue. - Yours, etc.,
