Sir, – John Moran, chairman of the Land Development Agency (LDA), writes that the objective of Project Ireland 2040 is that 75 per cent of population growth will take place outside Dublin City and suburbs "Future housing plans must mean an end to dominance of Dublin" (Business, Analysis, November 6th).
He states that the future of Ireland can’t be based on a Dublin-centric approach and needs to harness the potential of other locations.
I would respectfully suggest that the Land Development Agency lead by example and locate the operations of the agency including their decision making function in one of the four provincial cities, which have been mandated challenging growth targets of 50 per cent population growth by 2040. Or alternatively at a location in one of the five Project Ireland-designated regional growth centres of Athlone, Drogheda, Dundalk, Letterkenny or Sligo. The presence of the LDA would promote one of these urban centres as an alternative headquarter location while providing the staff of the agency with lower commute times and more affordable living. – Yours, etc,
