Sir, – Suzanne Lynch claims that the European Commission committed an “abdication of responsibility” as regards the EU food labelling system (Home News, February 14th).

However, as she notes in her article, it is the member states themselves who are responsible for food labelling enforcement, so where is the abdication of responsibility?

Also, we should examine why the member states, under industry pressure, blocked stronger food labelling legislation pushed by the European Parliament two years ago when the laws were reviewed.

So who is abdicating their responsibility? – Yours, etc,
