SARAH CLARKE,
Sir, - I am expecting my second baby in September and was enthusiastically organising a home birth until I was informed by the South Western Area Health Board that they have suspended the Home Birth Scheme. Apparently I only have myself to blame as were I living 10 miles south or 18 miles west (South East and Midland areas) I would be entitled to contract a domiciliary midwife which would be part funded by the health board. Obviously it makes far more economic sense to have me taking up a hospital bed in one of the overstretched Dublin maternity hospitals than at home. -Yours, etc.,
SARAH CLARKE,
Castledermot,
