A chara, – I hope Garry Bury is being facetious with his suggestion that managers in the HSE should be sacked like football managers (August 9th). He must be aware that football managers are subject to the same employment contract law as he and I are. People cannot just be sacked on perceived poor performance, particularly if the tools to improve that performance, namely staff and facilities, are not provided. Imagine how many doctors, nurses and health and social care professionals that a HSE manager could purchase for he price of Pogba (€104 million).
He must also be aware that football managers have a buy-out clause in their contract which means that a lump sum and the entire salary of their contract would be paid on their “sacking”. A clause which I’m sure many HSE managers would gladly accept. –Is mise,
