Sir, – Further to Sorcha Pollak's "Hijabs and hat-tricks – Muslim women lead the field" (December 30th), exactly why should an organisation such as Fifa and men such as Sepp Blatter influence whether a young woman plays football or not at local level in Ireland, headscarves or not?
Surely if anything this was a matter for the FAI? Lots of professional footballers wear headscarves, except these pieces of clothing are referred to as bandanas.
Of course, it’s different for girls in a man’s game.
Thankfully, running does not seem to be subject to the same rules as football, and I am heartened to see so many of my Muslim sisters running along the Grand Canal in Dublin every morning with headscarves.
More power to Diversity FC, and female runners everywhere in 2016! – Yours, etc,
JUDITH GOLDBERGER,
