Greetings and salutations

Sir, – My father, a Wicklow man, had several stock phrases of greeting, two of which seem very suitable for the present times. On meeting a friend, he would often say, “You’re looking well, are you sick?”, and when asked how he was, he would reply, “Sitting up while they’re making the bed”. – Yours, etc,
