Sir, - Kevin Myers seemingly deplores the honour of Saoi being bestowed on Francis Stuart by Aosdana, and denigrates him in such terms that one could be led to believe that Mr Stuart was largely responsible for the Holocaust.
Anyone who reads Dermot Bolger's introduction to Manna In The Morning by Madeleine Stuart (Raven Arts Press) will realise that Francis Stuart was by no means a Fascist, and became totally disillusioned with Hitler and the Nazis. As for the infamous broadcasts, they were apparently confused and ineffectual and, when put under pressure by the Germans to make them more political, he ceased them altogether. Mr Myers should now cease his denunciations and let this grand man of Irish letters live in peace and dignity. - Yours, etc.
